Women in Mobile. Meet Magdalena Zareba, One of the Women Game Changers in the Mobile Industry

Magdalena Zareba, Senior Growth Media Buyer at Huuuge Games at Aarki's Women in Mobile series

Many women are now building a strong industry presence and taking leadership roles as the gender gap in tech industry leadership roles decreases.

To acknowledge and recognize their contribution and get to know them better, we continue our blog series featuring women game changers in the mobile industry.

Magdalena Zareba
Senior Growth Media Buyer at Huuuge Games

My name is Magda and I am a Media Buying Analyst in Huuuge Games. I am responsible for user acquisition and I work mostly with rewarded video ad networks and DSPs.

  • Can you tell us about the work you and your organization do?
Huuuge Games is known worldwide mostly for its social casino apps. Now we are aiming as well to become a leader in real-time free-to-play casual gaming. But whatever app it is, our main goal is to give maximum joy and fun to our players.

My daily work consists of new user acquisition, and I look for people who will enjoy our games.

  • How do you keep up with changes in technology?
It is difficult to keep up with the constantly changing tech industry. For me the easiest way to stay on top of changes that happen all the time is reading blogs and articles.

  • What do you see as the biggest challenge for women in tech and how do we overcome it?
I think the biggest challenge is the fact that women themselves perceive tech and the mobile industry as men’s area. And that is why they are less determined to apply to positions in the field. But once we make the decision it turns out that the devil is not so black as he is painted. The tech industry is very challenging and constantly changing so it is good for everybody who is ambitious and persistent. The area is growing and developing so fast that there is enough space for both women and men if they want to be part of it. Even though men dominate the industry, I believe that women have great influence on the mobile market and it will become even bigger in near future when more women hold leading positions across the industry. We have to be confident and boldly strive for senior positions!

I am extremely lucky because I have never been in any situation that I felt treated in a different way than my male colleagues. Therefore the biggest challenge so far for me was to make the decision to apply for the position in a gaming company.

  • How would you describe your day job to a child?
I am looking for new players of our games on the internet. I show ads of Huuuge Casino to people who use their mobiles and who may be interested in playing our game and I try to convince them to download our app and play it.

  • What do you see as the next big thing in mobile marketing?
The next big thing that has already started is the domination of machine learning. Once it fully dominates the market it will make our work faster, targeting more precise, and costs lower. The biggest companies like Google and Facebook are already based on machine learning and I think the whole industry will soon adapt to this new trend.

Magda Zareba travelling

  • What keeps you busy outside work?
I love being active so I seldom come back straight home after work. I go to the gym, dance salsa and ride a bike. When I finally get home I cook, read books and watch Netflix. But what I enjoy the most is spending time with my friends and family.

  • If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be and why?
I would love to lead one of the international NGOs such as Greenpeace or intergovernmental organizations like UN. Why? Because their pillars and values are consistent with mine and they have global reach so can influence in positive ways many lives of people around the world.

  • If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn to play piano or drive a race car.

  • Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
My favourite place in the world and a place that I love coming back is Spain. I have many friends there, I love Spanish cuisine, culture and even I learnt how to dance Sevillana at one point of my life. But a place that I adore the most from all my travels is the USA. I love it for its unique nature and National Parks, international cuisine in every city, good roads, and extremely kind people.

  • What would you tell your younger self?
Magda, dream big and believe in yourself. You can do anything you want—limitations are only in your mind.
